The purpose of this website is to publish the results from an EC Product Group Study related to the Ecodesign of Energy-related Products (ErP) Directive 2009/125/EC (recast of the former EuP Directive 2005/32/EC) for ENTR Lot 5 Machine Tools. This study is contracted to Fraunhofer-Institut für Zuverlässigkeit und Mikrointegration (IZM) and Fraunhofer-Institut für Produktionsanlagen und Konstruktionstechnik (IPK).

This site will undergo periodic evolution throughout the course of this study. You can follow the progress of the study through this web site. Stakeholder involvement is a crucial part of this study. By registering as a stakeholder, you can stay informed of latest additions to this site and engage in the consultation. If you would like to be involved in the consultation process, you can do so through the website, responding to questionnaires and/or participation at stakeholder meetings.

This product group study aims to identify and recommend ways to improve the environmental performance of these energy using products throughout their lifetime at their design phase based on the European Commission Methodology for Ecodesign of Energy-using Products (MEEuP). The information provided by the study will be used to prepare for subsequent phases, including undertaking an impact assessment on policy options and to prepare a paper for the consultation of the forum. Those phases are to be carried out by the European Commission.

Initially, this study will go through a product category definition stage in order to establish the scope for all subsequent stages of the analysis. This study will identify:

  • Market characteristics for the products
  • Relevant environmental aspects of the products and their technical/economical potential for improvement
  • Existing relevant legislation
  • Self regulation by industry and standards
  • Needs for standards to be developed

The approach to undertaking this study and planned timescales are detailed in the Project Plan.
